This is a great mild chili that my kids love. We're not a huge spicy food house, so this recipe can definitely be added to if you like the heat! For us mild eating folks, though, it's perfect!
- Prep Time:
- Cook Time:
- Servings: 4
Ingredients
- (1 1/2 - 2 lb) 80/20 Ground Beef
- (2 c) Chopped Onion
- (4 cloves or 4 tsp) Minced Garlic
- (2 - 15 or 16 oz Cans) Beans (Kidney, Pinto, or Black), Rinsed & Drained
- (2 - 14.5 oz Cans) Diced Tomatoes, Undrained
- (1 - 15 oz Can) Tomato Sauce
- (1 c) Broth or Water
- (2 T (or less if you want less spice)) Chili Powder
- (1 tsp) Ground Black Pepper
- (for topping) Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- (for topping) Sour Cream
Directions
In a 4 Quart dutch Oven:
- Cook ground beef and onion until the meat is brown and the onion is tender.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.
- Drain fat
- Stir in beans, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, chili powder, basil, and black pepper.
- Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
- Simmer, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, top each serving with cheese and/or sour cream.
For an Instant Pot:
- Prepare Ground Beef, Onion, and Garlic in Instant Pot with the Saute setting.
- Pour everything and cover, pressure cook for 15 minutes.
- Turn warm setting off and let natural release for about 15 minutes, and then release the rest of the way.
For a Crock Pot:
- Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a pan.
- Add to crock pot with other ingredients.
- Set on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours
Note: Any Ground Beef works for this. Typically, chili is made with lean meat, but any kind will do!
