Chili
This is a great mild chili that my kids love. We're not a huge spicy food house, so this recipe can definitely be added to if you like the heat! For us mild eating folks, though, it's perfect!
  • Prep Time:
  • Cook Time:
  • Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • (1 1/2 - 2 lb) 80/20 Ground Beef
  • (2 c) Chopped Onion
  • (4 cloves or 4 tsp) Minced Garlic
  • (2 - 15 or 16 oz Cans) Beans (Kidney, Pinto, or Black), Rinsed & Drained
  • (2 - 14.5 oz Cans) Diced Tomatoes, Undrained
  • (1 - 15 oz Can) Tomato Sauce
  • (1 c) Broth or Water
  • (2 T (or less if you want less spice)) Chili Powder
  • (1 tsp) Ground Black Pepper
  • (for topping) Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • (for topping) Sour Cream

Directions

In a 4 Quart dutch Oven:

  • Cook ground beef and onion until the meat is brown and the onion is tender.
  • Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.
  • Drain fat
  • Stir in beans, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, chili powder, basil, and black pepper.
  • Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
  • Simmer, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, top each serving with cheese and/or sour cream.

For an Instant Pot:

  • Prepare Ground Beef, Onion, and Garlic in Instant Pot with the Saute setting.
  • Pour everything and cover, pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  • Turn warm setting off and let natural release for about 15 minutes, and then release the rest of the way.

For a Crock Pot:

  • Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a pan.
  • Add to crock pot with other ingredients.
  • Set on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours

Note: Any Ground Beef works for this. Typically, chili is made with lean meat, but any kind will do!
